Control 2 Has a Budget of €50m and ROI Figures Revealed
Remedy Entertainment aims to double revenues over the next few years and reach an EBITDA margin of 30% by 2027. The Finnish studio also revealed the ROI targets and budgets for Control 2 and FBC: Firebreak, along with some additional sales figures.
At the Capital Markets Day, Remedy Entertainment presented its strategy for the coming years and revealed further business highlights. Remedy aims to double the 2024 revenue by 2027 with continued growth beyond this milestone, and to reach an EBITDA margin of 30% by 2027 and maintain this minimum level throughout the strategy period. To achieve these goals, the company is focusing on "growing world-class gaming franchises", "category-leading games" and "self-publishing games owned by Remedy".
The Finnish company plans to release the PvE shooter FBC: Firebreak, a cooperative multiplayer shooter set in the Control universe, in 2025. The mid-priced game has a budget of around €30 million, and the goal is to sell three million copies to recoup the investment. The game will also be included in PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium and Xbox Game Pass at launch. Control 2 is now in "production readiness stage". The AAA game is categorised as an action RPG and has a budget of around €50 million. According to Remedy, it should sell three to four million units to reach the 100% ROI threshold. Control currently has over 4.5 million units sold, with over 19 million players playing Control on subscription services. Control Ultimate Edition will be released on Mac on 12 February 2025. The game will receive a free update in early 2025, which will unlock some previously released content.
Alan Wake II, released in October 2023, sold over 1.8 million copies. In February 2024, the figure was 1.3 million. Around 40 per cent of users have completed the game. By the end of September 2024, Alan Wake II has recovered most (but not all) of its development and marketing costs.
