2XKO has fallen short of expectations, prompting Riot Games to announce that the development team is to be downsized. Game Developer has confirmed that the downsizing will affect approximately 80 people.
Tom Cannon, Executive Producer for 2XKO: "The game has resonated with a passionate core audience, but overall momentum hasn't reached the level needed to support a team of this size long term. With a smaller, focused team, we're going to dig in and make key improvements to the game, including some of the things we've already heard you asking for." The 2026 Competitive Series is still going ahead as planned.
2XKO is a free-to-play, tag-team-based fighting game set in the Runeterra universe of League of Legends. It was officially announced in 2019 as Project L by developer Radiant Entertainment, which was acquired by Riot Games in March 2016. Early Access for PC was launched on 7 October 2025. On 20 January 2026, it was released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
