In the opening keynote of his Roblox Developer Conference (RDC), founder and CEO David Baszucki once again revealed a host of new developments. Roblox aims to set new standards, particularly in the field of generative AI. However, security is also an essential issue, especially since a collaboration with IARC was agreed shortly before the RDC.

David Baszucki had – once again – a whole host of innovations, revelations, and announcements in store when he took to the stage for the opening keynote speech at this year's Roblox Developer Conference. Most of these relate to the technological advances that Roblox is making year after year, which mean that Roblox is in no way inferior to other platform games such as Minecraft or Fortnite in terms of creativity and as a creator ecosystem.

On the contrary: Baszucki is well known for his ambitious goals, which he likes to formulate in a deliberately pointed manner, whether it's his ambition to reach a billion gamers or his target market share of ten percent in the global gaming ecosystem.

The plans in the area of generative AI are similarly ambitious. In his keynote speech, the Roblox CEO talks about how new tools will enable a kind of “real-time dreaming” in which entire worlds can be upscaled at the touch of a button, even while users are in the experience. The examples and demonstrations in the keynote speech are promising. There are also some interesting promises. For example, Roblox wants to release real-time voice chat translation next year.

It is also interesting to note that the topic of security and youth protection occupies a significant portion of his keynote. "We wanna be many times safer as the world's best amusement park for young people," Baszucki promised and announces further features to continuously improve Roblox, particularly with regard to the safety of young users. In line with this, Roblox unveiled a comprehensive collaboration with the IARC system shortly before the RDC. Almost all global gaming platforms now work with the international age rating system, which was jointly launched by the various rating institutions in the gaming industry, including the German USA and the pan-European PEGI system.

There was also good news for all Roblox creators in the keynote speech. For the first time in eight years, Roblox is increasing the share that creators receive when they market their work via the Roblox platform. On average, creators will receive 8.5 percent more Robux – the virtual currency in Roblox – which can then be exchanged for real money later. According to Basucki, the increase would amount to $95 million based on the share paid out from July 2024 to June 2025. That's a lot of money, even though Roblox still retains a significantly higher share for itself than pure game distribution platforms such as Steam or the Epix Game Store. On the other hand, Roblox also provides all the tools and technologies on its platform itself.
