In a 121 pages document, SpielFabrique together with partners and sponsors Analytics for Africa, Goethe-Institute and Xsolla has laid down the game development situation on the African continent in 2025.

Key data were drawn from the Africa Games Industry Report 2025, GeoPoll Gaming in Africa Report, Nigerian Gaming and Esports Report 2025, and publisher disclosures. The report brings together under-studied regions and a highly heterogeneous market. As such, the data is uneven and often limited, which the report takes into consideration.

In short, the report lays down how The African videogame market generated approximately USD $2.29 billion in revenue in 2025, with mobile gaming accounting for the

majority of market value. The African  market is growing significantly faster than the global average, with annual growth estimated at 12.32% CAGR compared to global growth estimate of approximately 7.5% in 2025.

Unity is the most widely used game engine across the continent, followed by the Unreal Engine; Godot’s newest adoption is increasing fast but remains minimal at scale. The ecosystem is structured around a large base of early-stage and semi-professional developers, alongside a smaller but expanding group of fully professional studios, with notable regional exceptions.

Gaming activity like esports is concentrated in major urban hubs; individual gaming vastly takes places in smartphones. Though with the development of hardware accessibility and the emergence of a middle-class more open to a pay-to-play culture, this situation is set to even out in the coming years, the report states.

The full report goes into details on the global landscape and impact on Africa as well. It can be found here for download.
