New Mobile Store Game Strategy From Epic Games
Epic Games has announced its new games strategy for mobile stores. The company's titles will leave the Samsung Galaxy Store and be released on AltStore. Payment plans for the upcoming Epic Games Store on Android worldwide and iOS in the European Union have also been announced.
Epic Games has announced that Fortnite, along with other games from the company, will be leaving the Samsung Galaxy Store. Two reasons are given, one being Samsung's decision to block side-loading by default on Samsung Android devices, which Epic Games described as "anti-competitive". The second reason given is "public revelations in the US Epic v Google lawsuit of ongoing Google proposals to Samsung to restrain competition in the market for Android app distribution."
While Epic Games is withdrawing from the Samsung Galaxy Store, its mobile games will be published in the AltStore, an alternative app store designed for sideloading, on iOS in the EU, "and we expect to announce support for at least two other third-party stores soon", Epic Games says.
The company mentioned that it would be bringing its own mobile games, including Fortnite, to other mobile stores "that give all developers a great deal", whatever that means in detail. Furthermore Epic Games will be ending distribution partnerships with mobile stores "that serve as rent collectors without competing robustly and serving all developers fairly, even if those stores offer us a special deal for our own games."
Further plans for the launch of the Epic Games Store on Android and iOS have been outlined as follows: "Fortnite will be returning to iOS in the European Union soon, and the Epic Games Store will be coming to Android worldwide and iOS in the European Union bringing all developers great terms: a store fee of 12 per cent for payments we process, and 0 per cent on third party payments."
