Super Fantasy Kingdom is a roguelite city-building game combining resource management, base expansion, world exploration and automatic defence battles, all presented in a retro style reminiscent of classic pixel art strategy games such as the first instalments of The Settlers series. Players can choose to play as either the Human Kingdoms or the Undead, although initially only the Human Kingdom is available; the other faction must be unlocked first. Both begin with their lands in ruins, only one hero to protect them, and a small settlement with limited plots.

The game is divided into two phases. During the day, players must rebuild their kingdoms using minimalist city-building mechanics that reward planning and strategic decision-making. Players must gather resources such as food, wood and stone, and use them to build structures, recruit heroes and bolster defences. This also depends on the allocation of available workers, which is determined by the number of houses, and their assignment to workplaces. This directly determines what and how much is currently being produced. Initially, only raw materials are available, but over time, items requiring longer production chains are gradually introduced. Thus, the kingdom slowly grows again.

In the meantime, however, enemy troops are constantly attacking and are automatically fought by the hero and the player's own units. Over time, additional troops can be recruited or received. New warriors can be recruited either through random events or by exploring the realm. These troops can be placed in slots and will then automatically attack enemies. The troops fight independently and automatically; it is not possible to command them directly as in a real-time strategy game. These waves of attacks increase in number and strength every day, and the surviving enemies become stronger when night falls. The combination and placement of units and heroes greatly influences survival chances. Once all the monsters have been defeated, the hero and their units will enter the tavern and eat whatever food is available. Each type of food provides a different amount of experience for levelling up - and, of course, it takes more effort to prepare high-quality food.

Day by day, players gather new resources, expand their kingdom and explore the fantasy world. The latter is achieved by building roads with gold (obtained through taxes), which gradually reveals and unlocks the map. There, they will find quests, new challenges, more unit types, upgrades, NPCs and much more.
Exploration makes the game more complex, but the pace is set by you, although increasingly powerful enemies must also be dealt with. Hooded Horse: "Explore the world to meet over 50 unique units that you can recruit into your cause to find the best combinations – vampires guarding halfling slingers, dinosaurs charging ahead of genie spellcasters, or crossbowmen supporting brave men-at-arms?"

The current Early Access version features 80 roads to unlock, and certain merchants periodically visit to trade rare goods or heroes. At the start of each run, players can choose from ten heroes (which must first be unlocked), which can be levelled up and improved individually. There are around 15 non-player characters (NPCs) in the world, as well as nine bosses and five elite monsters. Additionally, there are 20 outpost buildings, 80 combat relics, and 30 special kingdom relics that can affect subsequent runs by enhancing either the kingdom or the heroes' stats.

When a run ends, whether through defeat or victory, players earn rewards that can be used for meta-progression. These rewards can be used to unlock persistent upgrades, new biomes, more efficient opening strategies and opportunities for strategic experimentation. This increases the game's replay value.

Super Fantasy Games is a one-man development studio based in Hanover and run by Feryaz Beer. This is his first game, for which he credits his dog, Mio, as co-developer — Mio also stars in the game. However, he receives support in the areas of graphics, sound, music and testing. In an interview with the Epic Games Store about Super Fantasy Kingdom, Feryaz Beer said the following about strategic decisions and difficulty levels: "The game has to be challenging enough that your decisions matter, but not so challenging that you feel treated unfairly. We initially wanted to make the game very easy, but that made everything meaningless. If you can solve all kinds of problems with one tool, you don't need the others anymore."

Hooded Horse is a publisher of strategic and tactical games. Its portfolio includes Manor Lords, Against the Storm, Endless Legend 2, Old World, Norland, Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era (on over one million Steam wish lists) and 9 Kings (in collaboration with Instinct3). In the coming months, Hexxen: Hunters from Ulisses Spiele Digital, Drill Keeper from ShoulderByte and Menace from Overhype Studios are also set to be released - all of these games originate from Germany. On 6 November 2025, Whiskerwood, a city-building simulation from Minakata Dynamics in Japan, will also be released. In this game, players must establish a home for industrious mice in the untamed lands of this city-builder, featuring complex simulations, production chains and the age-old rivalry between cats and mice.

Super Fantasy Kingdom will be released as an Early Access title on Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store on 24 October 2025. It will also be available on PC Game Pass on day one via Game Preview.
