For Total War: Warhammer III, Creative Assembly and Sega Europe have released a major update for the main game, including four Legendary Lords and the free Vampire Queen Neferata, all under the banner of Lords of the End Times. The four Legendary Lords are Nagash, the Supreme Lord of the Undead, who seeks to drain the world of life and ascend to godhood; Boris Todbringer, the Elector Count of Middenland, who fights to rekindle the flame of Ulric in defence of the Empire; the Glottkin, who spreads Nurgle's grotesque gardens across the land; and Thanquol, who orchestrates sinister plots with his cunning plans. Each Legendary Lord offers a unique strategic experience inspired by Warhammer lore, whether in the campaign mode or in battle.

Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead

Nagash's plan is to amass legions of undead warriors, construct necropolises, and transform the world into a vast Land of the Dead. To achieve this, he gathers dark energy and empowers his arcane Black Pyramid, which acts as a giant skill tree for his campaign mechanics. Combining elements of a classic technology tree with global modifiers and buffs, it empowers Nagash and his entire faction. Progress is made by conquering the world and constructing necropolises. In order to achieve this, he must gather the nine Mortarchs and reclaim the lost Books of Nagash. Nagash is a powerful spellcaster who wields the Lore of Undeath in battle, though he can access many more spells from other lores as the Books of Nagash are returned to him. He can raise units from a range of Undead rosters, including Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts and Vampire Coast units. This makes his armies flexible in battle, depending on their composition.

He can also perform great winter rites to energise his armies. The sanctuaries provide permanent bonuses to Boris Todbringer's faction. As they are upgraded, he can recruit Elector State Troopers to bolster his armed forces. In combat, Boris is a melee fighter who wields his signature weapon, Legbiter. They also generate Nurgle corruption in the lands through which they travel, conquering settlements and transforming them into Gardens of Corruption — it's an aggressive form of expansion through biological warfare. The Gardens of Corruption grant the Glottkin access to a higher proportion of Daemonic Nurgle units than any other Warriors of Chaos faction. The Gardens of Corruption also generate Plagues, which the Glottkin can spread across the world. Scythe-wielding Otto and the sorcerer Ethrac ride to battle atop the shoulders of their brother Ghurk, a spawn of Nurgle. They combine physical and magical might in battle, acting as a single combatant. Free-DLC and Main Game Updates

Alongside the Lords of the End Times, Total War: Warhammer III is receiving one of its biggest updates ever (release notes). In addition to the free Legendary Lord: Neferata (Vampire Counts), the Vampire Counts faction has been completely overhauled. This includes the way standard units are recruited using corpses and blood. Players must now find a Vampire Lair and spend time developing it before awakening the Vampire within to gain new Vampire Lords. Furthermore, uniting the legendary vampire lords under one banner has been made easier by completing a series of missions and incurring high costs.

The endgame has also been overhauled. The developers wrote: "To begin with, the current End Game scenarios have been re-categorized as Crisis Scenarios. We imagine these more as mid-game events that will certainly shake up a campaign, but don’t provide all of the necessary ingredients players want from an End Game. We've now crafted three new End Game scenarios, and we believe they’re the best we’ve made to date. They comprise unique gameplay mechanics, narrative buildups with bespoke art and cinematics, and campaign-defining climactic moments. We of course provide options in the frontend to opt-out of these new End Games (as well as the newly categorized mid-game Crisis Scenarios), for players who want the full, uninterrupted Sandbox experience. We’ve also included options to customize the End Games themselves. The three End Game Scenarios heavily utilize Devastation as part of their mechanics, and as the End Game commences, the music, campaign lighting, and the terrain itself change as the Endgame factions begin to conquer more of the world."

These new apocalyptic end game events include Chaos Invasion, Vermintide and Nagash Rises. In Chaos Invasion, players must first defeat Archaon's invading forces and destroy his five key strongholds in order to weaken him enough to defeat him in a final battle. In Vermintide, all Skaven settlements on the map become visible, while ratmen appear across it. Players must repel the waves and gather intelligence about the Skaven's war plans in order to crush them. Nagash's master plan begins as he moves his Black Pyramid to Nagashizzar. He unites all undead forces under his control. Players must fight their way through battles against the undead hordes to reach the Black Pyramid and face Nagash in a final showdown. Practical: The endgame scenarios that are triggered, and the timing of their activation, can be configured in the options menu when starting a game.

Finally, the victory conditions in Immortal Empires have been updated. Creative Assembly: "We've now updated victory conditions with a single design-goal in mind: we want to ensure each campaign has a set of loreful objectives which each Legendary Lord/faction would aim to achieve. Where possible, these objectives will include that faction or culture's unique mechanics as part of the victory condition." Because so much has changed in the game, there is still room for improvement and optimisation in some areas of this highly complex game.

The game and it's DLCs was developed by Creative Assembly, which was founded in 1987. The company has studios in Sussex (UK) and Sofia (Bulgaria), and is currently working on Total War: Warhammer 40,000 in partnership with Games Workshop, as well as Total War: Medieval III and Alien: Isolation 2 with 20th Century Studios. Games in the Total War series have now sold over 48.3 million copies. Creative Assembly, alongside Two Point Studios, Sports Interactive and Hardlight, belongs to Sega Europe Limited, which is the European distribution arm of the Tokyo-based Sega Corporation.

Total War: Warhammer III – Lords of the End Times has been available since 24 September 2026 for Windows PCs on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store. Each DLC costs €8.99 individually. A bundle containing all four Legendary Lords is available for just under €30. For the first time in the series, purchasing Lords of the End Times content – either as a bundle or individually – grants access to the Immortal Empires campaign, meaning players do not need to own any Total War: Warhammer games, which makes it an entry point for new players.

Conclusion

Although Total War: Warhammer III – Lords of the End Times is not the final DLC for the game, it would have made a fitting conclusion to an exceptional game!

Features

  • Four Legendary Lords with unique playstyles
  • Completely revamped endgame
  • Numerous improvements and tweaks
