Blindflug Studios' Ground of Aces Launches in Early Access in July
Swiss-Polish indie developer Blindflug Studios has announced the release date for its base-building strategy game, Ground of Aces. The game will be available on PC and Mac via Early Access on 10 July 2025.
In Ground of Aces, players take command of an airbase during World War II. They must build and manage the base, leading it through the hardships of war. The Early Access version features the British Royal Air Force as the first playable faction. "Ground of Aces will offer players a unique view into World War II, highlighting the challenges faced by air bases and their crews, including historic events such as the Battle of Britain," said the developers. The game is inspired by free-form base-building games such as RimWorld and Going Medieval, as well as historical strategy games such as Hearts of Iron IV. The art style pays homage to the 'ligne claire' style of Franco-Belgian comics such as Biggles and Buck Danny.
Following the release of the playable demo earlier this year, the team is now ready to move forward. Executive Producer Moritz Zumbühl explains: "Over the past few months, we've worked closely with our community, and we're incredibly excited to launch the Early Access version of Ground of Aces exactly on the 85th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Britain. July 10 is our D-Day - and we can't wait to send players on their mission." Ground of Aces will launch in Early Access on 10 July 2025 for PC and Mac.
Founded in 2014 by Jeremy Spillmann and Moritz Zumbühl, Blindflug Studios is an indie game studio based in Zurich, Switzerland and Poznań, Poland. "We want to create beautiful, imaginative and fun games that centre around real-world dilemmas," they said. Their games include First Strike, a nuclear war RTS game that has been played by more than eleven million people to date. This was followed by Cloud Chasers, which explores the topic of migration; the dieselpunk action game Airheart; and the Apple Arcade launch title Stellar Commanders.
