SWR Launches New Pen-and-Paper Format Live on Twitch
SWR is launching a new interactive pen-and-paper format called "Fehler im System" (Errors in the System), which will be broadcast live on Twitch.
From 7 p.m. on 24 and 25 October, twitch.tv/ard will be the place to be for dice rolling and puzzle solving with the community. Hauke Gerdes, a familiar face in the pen-and-paper scene, will be the game master, supported by popular creators such as Daniel Budimann, KaddiTV, Uke Bosse and Haselnuuuss. Actress Franciska Friede and actors Frederic Böhle and Ron Helbig will also be lending their support.
The project is part of SWR's 'Virtual Production' initiative, which involves trialling new studio technologies over a period of three months. Developed in collaboration with the production company Midflight Productions, the interactive pen-and-paper show aims to set new standards in the interaction between gaming, streaming and TV production in virtual production.
Virtual production combines real studio recordings with virtual worlds displayed on a large LED wall. Presenters, hosts and actors perform in front of digital backgrounds which are synchronised with the cameras in real time – without any post-production, directly live in the studio.
Anja Räßler, Creative Director at Midflight Productions, said: "We are very keen to make pen-and-paper games accessible to a wider audience. The format's fascination lies in its combination of epic stories, collaborative play, and spontaneous creativity. In SWR, we have now found the ideal partner to help us realise our vision of combining classic role-playing with cutting-edge virtual production technology. There are enormous synergy effects within the team - it's great fun to work together on this new form of production."
