Devolver Direct 2024: The Showcase from Devolver Digital
Tenjutsu, the new game from Dead Cells designer Sébastien Benard, and Possessor(s) from Heart Machine were announced at the Devolver Direct 2024. Cult of the Lamb is getting a co-op update, The Talos Principle 2 gets three expansions and Anger Foot will soon be kicking off.
After the Summer Game Fest, Devolver Digital showed its own games showcase, this time the announcements were packed into a 20-minute birthday party for the mascot Volvy. The headliner of this year's show was Tenjutsu from solo developer Deepnight Games, Sébastien Benard, Designer of Dead Cells. It is a combat roguelike, in which a renegade yakuza fights to liberate Secret Garden City. "To sum it up, Tenjutsu is what John Wick or Jackie Chan would have been if they were a combat roguelite. An action-packed melee combat system, where you face multiple enemies simultaneously, filled with split-second battle opportunities," Benard said.
Also revealed was Possessor(s) - from independent developer Heart Machine (Hyper Light Drifter). It is a fast-paced action side-scroller with platform fighter-inspired combat set in a connected world ripe for exploration. At Summer Game Fest 2024, the publisher showed the first gameplay trailer for Neva, the new game from Gris creators Nomada Studio. The Plucky Squire was not featured.
Kick-off for Anger Foot on 11 July. Developed by Free Lives (Broforce, Gorn, Terra Nil), the game is a fast "blast of kicking doors and kicking ass" - and this description fits like a glove. "Shit City is a disease and your foot is the cure. In this relentless first-person kicker you’ll crash through the caffeine-fueled fever dream of Shit City, putting the boot to a menacing menagerie of merciless gangsters," the publisher said.
The Crush House makes its PC debut on 9 August. Created by UK-based developer Nerial (Reigns), the Crush House is a 1999 reality TV sensation in which the player is the new producer. "Playing as new hire Jae, take your camera into the show's iconic Malibu mansion and keep viewers glued to their screens by filming all the drama, romance, and tension that erupts. But fail to keep your audience entertained and you may suffer a fate worse than death: cancellation. But there's more to The Crush House than meets the eye, and a sinister mystery is waiting to be uncovered."
On 12 August, the very successful Cult of the Lamb will receive the free update Unholy Alliance. It introduces a new playable character: the Goat. The new ally can join the Lamb in local co-op. In addition, of co-op play, the expansion also adds new tarot cards, relics, buildings, fleeces, follower traits, follower quests, and other secrets.
The Talos Principle 2: Road to Elysium gives the main game three expansions: Orpheus Ascending, Isle of the Blessed and Into the Abyss. "Following the events of The Talos Principle 2, Road to Elysium continues the evolution of the robot world, providing you with a new perspective on some of the key moments from 1K's journey, and challenging you with puzzles built around both new and pre-existing mechanics," the publisher said. Release date is 14 June.
