Midnight is the eleventh expansion for Blizzard Entertainment's massively popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft. The most notable new feature is Housing. Alongside the new features typically included in every expansion, Blizzard has made other significant changes.
Midnight is the eleventh expansion for Blizzard's MMORPG World of Warcraft and the second instalment in the World Soul saga. It continues the events from The War Within (2024). The expansion focuses on the threat posed by Xal'atath and a void storm in Quel'thalas. Players can level up to 90 and explore four new zones. Midnight features four main zones centred on the elven lands of Quel'Thalas. These include the revamped Eversong Woods and Silvermoon City; Zul'Aman, the territory of the trolls; Haranir's fungal jungle of Harandar; and the Voidstorm, which has been corrupted by the Void. The journey begins in the Eversong Woods, but after that players can choose which region they want to visit next. Silvermoon City, the capital of the Blood Elves, has also undergone a complete revamp. It now serves as the central hub for the latest expansion and is accessible to players of the Alliance faction - even though some areas are only accessible to the Horde. In terms of attention to detail and liveliness, Silvermoon is the most impressive city in the game.
One of the most significant new features is the introduction of player housing. For the first time, players can design their own homes and socialise with up to 50+ other players in neighbourhoods (private & guild / public). There are also endeavours in the neighbourhoods where players/neighbours must work together to complete themed quests and tasks in order to unlock new decorations, such as mechagnomes and draketyrs. These are cleverly linked to existing content. Housing has generally been deeply and comprehensively integrated into the MMORPG. Hundreds of items from all over Azeroth and beyond can be placed in one's house and outdoor area. Since the scaling parameters can be modified in advanced mode, truly elaborate and creative designs can be created. However, there is still a lack of design options for all races. Blizzard says that they intend to continue expanding the housing system in future. Those who are not interested in housing can simply ignore this game element.
Beyond that, Midnight offers all the content you would expect from World of Warcraft. This includes three raids. Players will take their first steps into the Voidspire (six bosses) and Dreamrift raids, followed shortly by the March on Quel'Danas raid. A total of nine bosses are split across the three raid dungeons, marking the first time in a while that Blizzard has offered a raid with one or two bosses. Then there are eight new dungeons for five players, of course with mythic plus versions - some are more traditional, some are more innovative like Murder Row.
The delves introduced in The War Within — small, instanced PvE adventures for one to five players — remain a major PvE feature, with ten delves and a seasonal nemesis depth. This time, the Blood Elf Rogue Valeera Sanguinar will join as a companion. Due to their popularity, the delves are getting a kind of mega-version called Labyrinths with content patch 12.1.5. "These are inspired by mega-dungeons. They are large sprawling experiences you can tackle all at once or a bit at a time depending on your own schedule. They will have a different form and reward structure than are currently available in Delves but retain the core elements of exploring and besting foes alongside your Delve companion," explains Blizzard Entertainment. Meanwhile, the first big upcoming content patch, 12.1, will introduce a new zone with maximum-level content, a new raid and a new season with an updated Mythic+ dungeon pool, as well as new PvP and Delves rewards. Smaller raids are also planned.
World of Warcraft Roadmap 2026 - Blizzard Entertainment
PvP players can battle it out on the Slayer's Rise 40-vs-40 battleground, while those new to PvP can learn the basics in the training grounds. Here, they compete against AI-controlled opponents in Arathi Basin, Silvershard Mines and the Battle for Gilneas.
There is also a new allied race, the Haranir, who can join either the Horde or the Alliance. The available classes are Druid, Hunter, Mage, Monk, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock and Warrior. In keeping with the void theme, the Demon Hunter has a new third specialisation: Devourer. Rather than using demonic energy, they use the power of the Void. This spellcaster operates at medium range but can also sprint directly to the target, making use of the wide range of movement options typical of Demon Hunters. What's more: Players will also gain access to the new Void Elf Demon Hunter combination.

Progressing to level 90 unlocks the new Apex talents. These new talents focus on the fantasy behind each specialisation and refine the basic gameplay. Another new Midnight feature is the Prey system, which adds endgame content to the open world. Here, players can track and hunt targets across Midnight's zones, each of which has three difficulty levels. A new social hub is Arcantina, somewhat reminiscent of the Order Halls from Legion. In this magical inn, located at the crossroads of everywhere and nowhere, players can meet familiar faces, listen to stories and receive quests in an authentic atmosphere.
World of Warcraft: Midnight also reduces and adjusts many class abilities, making the game more accessible to newcomers. This also significantly affects gameplay complexity, skill rotation and priority management. However, this is also a consequence of Blizzard Entertainment's decision to restrict the functionality of third-party interface add-ons drastically, already with the pre-patch. In the past, these add-ons became so powerful that certain boss fights could only be dealt with if they were installed. This radical step is primarily intended to optimise boss fight design and standardise the gaming experience for all players.
The associated changes to combat design are major. Accordingly, WoW designers need to communicate the specifics of combat much more clearly (boss skills, phases, important targets etc.), implement audiovisual cues, and ensure clarity themselves - as well as provide an appropriate level of challenge depending on the difficulty selected. Many UI functions, such as boss timers, nameplates, cooldown managers and damage meters, will now be provided by Blizzard themselves. On the one hand, Blizzard now offers all the central elements from a single source, giving them control over what happens in combat. However, many advanced UI elements are still in development, and do not yet offer the same range of options and functions as the add-ons developed over many years, such as BigWigs, Deadly Boss Mods and WeakAuras. However, improvements are also planned in this area on an ongoing basis. It all feels like a fresh start in terms of both boss and encounter designs.
The second chapter of the World of Warcraft: World Souls saga, Midnight, is set to launch worldwide on 3 March 2026. It will be available in three digital editions: Base Edition (€49.99), Heroic Edition (€69.99), and Epic Edition (€89.99). A Collector's Edition is also available for €139.99. A monthly subscription (€12.99) is required to play the game, which also gives access to World of Warcraft Classic.
Conclusion
World of Warcraft: Midnight introduces powerful housing options, bold changes, and new content to cater for all types of players. It is by no means the lame middle part of a trilogy; quite the contrary.
