Following the announcement that Forza Horizon 5 will be coming to PlayStation 5, two more ports of Xbox games have been announced, this time successful real-time strategy games.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, first released on PC in November 2019, and Age of Mythology: Retold, first released in September 2024, will be coming to PlayStation 5, both with cross-play. With this, Xbox is catering to an audience that is underserved on the PlayStation console.

Age of Mythology: Retold is scheduled for release on 4 March 2025, with the Premium Edition available for 5 days Early Access from 27 February. The Immortal Pillars expansion, which introduces the Chinese Pantheon, will be released on all platforms on 4 March. This spring, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will make its debut on PlayStation 5, along with a new DLC expansion. For now, Microsoft is planning to release these two RTS games on PlayStation 5.

Two new expansions for Age of Empires IV are planned for 2025 as well. The first of these two DLCs, Knights of Cross and Rose, will be released this spring. "In addition to adapting the variant civilization concept, we’re also exploring unique game modes in both 2025 DLCs that focus on shorter and repeatable experiences," Michael Mann (Studio Head, World's Edge) said. A PS5 port of Age of Empires IV has not yet been announced. Age of Empires Mobile will also be expanded. Looking back to 2024, the developers report that they have reached the milestone of 60 million Age of Empires players worldwide - and that the franchise has reached 10 million new players.
