Captain Blood Arrives 22 Years After It Was Announced

In the early 2000s, Captain Blood was announced for release in 2010, then disappeared. Now the game is finally setting sail. Behind the revival is boutique video game publisher SNEG, which focuses on rescuing and reviving old games.

SNEG announced that Captain Blood has finally "made port" after two decades and is now available on PC (Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store), Mac, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox X|S and Switch for €24.99.

Originally announced in 2003, the game went through several iterations throughout the 2000s, and was originally slated for a 2010 release on PC and consoles, but the planned launch was scuppered when the original publisher went bankrupt, followed by a series of legal challenges that prevented the developers (Seawolf Studio) from releasing the game themselves. Fifteen years later, with the blessing of the original development team, SNEG took the helm to release the game, bringing it into the modern age while retaining the retro look and feel. SNEG is a UK-based boutique video game publisher specialising in rescuing and reviving old games - such as Blade of Darkness, Warlords, Close Combat, Diggles/Wiggles, D&D: Forgotten Realms, or Take No Prisoners.

"The original developers put years of hard work into this game and never got the credit for their efforts or to see gamers playing it. Today, this launch is for them. We hope players everywhere will enjoy and appreciate their work and show their support for the preservation of more cancelled gems like Captain Blood in the future," said SNEG co-founders Artem Shchuiko and Oleg Klapovskiy in a statement today.

It's a moment of pride and joy for the entire team," said Sergey Makeev, former Project Lead on Captain Blood at Seawolf Studio and currently Senior Technical Director at Roblox.
