Alinea: Battlefield 6 Is the Most-Played New Game of the Year
Battlefield 6 is not only the most played new game of the year but also the best-selling title, according to estimated data from Alinea Analytics. The second most-played game is also from Electronic Arts, but not EA Sports FC 26.
Market researchers at Alinea Analytics have named the top new releases of 2025, ranked by the number of players and units sold. The estimated data covers the period from 1 January to 20 November 2025, including the Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Microsoft PC platforms, as well as Game Pass and PlayStation Plus. The Epic Games Store and GOG.com were not included. Neither were the Nintendo Switch 1 and 2 platforms; otherwise, Mario Kart World would also be included, having sold 9.57 million units. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is also missing due to the time period covered by the survey. Although it fell short of its predecessor's sales, it broke the 200,000 units sold mark in Germany in November and debuted at number 1 in the US in its release month where it is currently ranked 7th in the annual charts.
According to the data, the best-selling game of the year is Battlefield 6, with 23.8 million players (including those playing the free-to-play version, Redsec), and sales of almost 20 million units. Second place also goes to Electronic Arts with skate., which has 21.6 million players (free-to-play). Third place goes to Semiwork's online co-op horror game R.E.P.O. (€9.75), which has sold 19.2 million copies on PC alone. The PC-only co-op climbing game Peak ($7.49) has also sold over 14.5 million copies. According to estimates by Alinea Analytics, EA Sports FC 26 has sold over 10 million copies and has a total of 13.5 million players. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, winner of numerous Game of the Year awards, ranks ninth with 8.6 million players and over five million sales.
