With over 230 million copies sold, Assassin's Creed is arguably Ubisoft's most important franchise. Although the release of Assassin's Creed Hexe is still some time away, the French publisher is launching Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, a remake of one of the most popular games in the series.
One of the most popular games in the Assassin's Creed franchise is Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, which was released in 2013. Building on the sailing mechanics of its predecessor and set in the "Golden Age of Piracy", the game perfectly captures the Caribbean pirate vibe and features an atypical, relatable protagonist. Due to the strong calls from the community for a remake, Ubisoft is releasing Black Flag Resynced in July — a remake built from the ground up using the latest Anvil engine.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is set during the Golden Age of Piracy. Players follow the story of Edward Kenway, a rebellious pirate captain, as he sails the Caribbean and becomes embroiled in the centuries-old conflict between the Assassins and the Templars. In his quest for fame and fortune, he crosses paths with pirates such as Blackbeard, Anne Bonny and Calico Jack.
It features a seamless open world, improved graphics, more detailed environments and better lighting similar to that in Assassin's Creed Shadows, with ray-traced lighting and global illumination (RTGI) and reflections. Combat has been rebuilt to allow for more dynamic encounters that emphasise parries and takedowns, while stealth and parkour have been improved to enable smoother escapes and assassinations. The developers intend to retain Edward's responsive movement from the original game, making it snappier and more deliberate. Players can continuously upgrade their ship, the Jackdaw, to take on enemy ships, with enhanced naval mechanics featuring new alternate fire modes. Three new officers will join the crew as part of the main narrative, each bringing a special ability to naval combat. Familiar characters will return with new side-storylines dedicated to figures such as Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. Further surprises await, including new sea shanties, pets and a photo mode.
Resynced focuses on the single-player experience; the multiplayer mode from the original game is missing, and the Freedom Cry (standalone) DLC, which tells the story of Adéwalé, is not included in the game.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is being developed under the leadership of Ubisoft Singapore, in collaboration with the following co-development studios: Ubisoft Barcelona, Ubisoft Belgrade, Ubisoft Bordeaux, Ubisoft Bucharest, Ubisoft Chengdu, Ubisoft Da Nang, Ubisoft India, Ubisoft Kiev, Ubisoft Montpellier, Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft Philippines, Ubisoft Quebec, Ubisoft Shanghai, and Ubisoft Sofia.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced launches on 9 July 2026 on Ubisoft+, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC via the Ubisoft Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store. The Standard Edition will cost €59.99. The Launch Edition will be available from retail outlets at launch for a recommended retail price of €59.99. This includes the main game, a 34-page art book and a world map poster. Media Markt and Saturn are offering an exclusive Steelbook to customers who pre-order. The Deluxe Edition, which is only available digitally, includes the main game, the "Master Assassin Character Pack" (Edward costume, sword, pistol, and trinket with unique perks), and the "Master Assassin Maritime Pack" (sail set, ship's pet, crew attire, wheel, figurehead, and hull trim) for €69.99. Finally, there is the Collector's Edition, priced at €199.99. This includes all the content from the Deluxe Edition, plus a 31 cm Edward Kenway statue, a wearable metal brooch featuring Edward, a SteelBook case, a fabric world map and more.
Conclusion
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced is more than just a graphical update - it's a complete overhaul of this fan favourite.
