Under the banner GiG – Games & Gamification im Gesundheitswesen (games and gamification in healthcare), MFG Baden-Württemberg has launched a new initiative in collaboration with Biopro, the state agency for the healthcare industry. The initiative includes networking opportunities, knowledge exchange formats, and prototype funding.

The GiG initiative aims to bring together stakeholders from healthcare, science, the creative industries, education, and technology. Its goal is to unlock the potential of games and gamification in prevention, therapy, education, and health promotion. This new program builds on the experience of the GamesHub for Health / Life Science Heidelberg pilot project, which provided targeted support for start-ups developing serious games and gamification concepts for healthcare applications.

MFG Baden-Württemberg is coordinating a variety of offerings and event formats under the GiG initiative, with implementation supported by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg. A statewide network of institutions and partners is also closely involved.

One of the planned formats is GiG xTalks, the first of which will take place on 1 July. Another key component is GiG xLab, a two-day innovation sprint set for 10 and 11 October in Mannheim. The goal of the sprint is to address real-world challenges in therapy, prevention, rehabilitation, and training, while fostering collaboration between professionals in the games, healthcare, and creative sectors.

Participants will then have the opportunity to further develop their ideas from GiG xLab. Financial support of up to €8,000 is available for prototype development, provided that the implementation is carried out by a games or creative company based in Baden-Württemberg. Project funding and implementation are scheduled to take place between November 2025 and January 2026. MFG will publish further details soon.
