Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
By the end of March 2025, Death Stranding had surpassed 20 million players. Initially released on PlayStation 4 in 2019, it was later made available on other platforms. Its sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, will also debut on PlayStation.
The story picks up around eleven months after the events of the first game. Sam Porter Bridges has settled down with his Bridge Baby, Lou, but is then led to Mexico by Fragile, which eventually takes him to Australia. There, he must unite a fragmented society while facing supernatural, human and natural dangers. Hideo Kojima's third-person, open-world adventure stays true to the core concepts of exploration, package delivery, and rebuilding infrastructure in a highly mysterious setting.
However, it also builds upon these concepts in many ways, particularly in terms of pace. The sequel's storyline is considerably faster and gives players access to new equipment, vehicles, and constructions much earlier on. While the game world is ravaged by natural disasters, combat-oriented confrontations can be tackled in open combat, circumvented using stealth mechanics or avoided altogether by taking other, more difficult routes. The chosen play style directly impacts Sam's abilities. For instance, if players spend a lot of time traversing rough terrain, Sam's ability to do so improves. With Kojima's signature cinematic choreography and star-studded cast, the game surpasses its predecessor.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is being developed by Kojima Productions. It will initially be released exclusively on the PlayStation 5 on 26 June 2025, with support from Sony Interactive Entertainment as the publisher. As with its predecessor, it is likely that the game will be released on other platforms at a later date.
With consummate mastery, Hideo Kojima carries on with this singular and peculiar cinematic odyssey.
