The Esports Awards and the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) have entered a three-year partnership, bringing the esports awards ceremony to Riyadh during the Esports World Cup.

The 2024 Esports Awards will be hosted on August 24 in Riyadh, featuring a gala that honors the best in esports worldwide. The event will celebrate achievements across clubs, athletes, content creators and games. This was announced at the unveiling of a three-year cooperation agreement between The Esports Awards and the Esports World Cup Foundation.

The partnership marks a further concentration of global e-sports in Saudi Arabia. The Esports Award started out as a dinner event in London in 2015, but has since been held in Dallas and Las Vegas. The community is to be involved in the voting for the finalists of the awards, which is to start at the end of June.

"Hosting the Esports Awards in Riyadh enriches the Esports World Cup, bringing the entire world together to commemorate esports excellence," said Ralf Reichert, CEO Esports World Cup Foundation. "Here, we can support the Esports Awards as a valuable bridge between Eastern and Western audiences. The Esports Awards is a fantastic gala that celebrates stakeholders from across the global esports ecosystem, recognizing not only competitive greatness but also greatness in production, broadcasting, leadership, creative design and more."

"Partnering with the Esports World Cup enables us to offer an even more exceptional experience to our nominees, guests and viewers," said Michael Ashford, CEO, Esports Awards. "The Esports Awards have always been dedicated to celebrating incredible achievements in esports, so we naturally saw the opportunity to join forces with EWC in Riyadh as an excellent fit."

Saudi Arabia has been investing heavily in esports and gaming for several years and is launching the Esport World Cup, by far the most highly endowed esports event in the world, this July.

Although the massive investment is important for the development of esports and there has been progress in the country, there are also critical voices from the scene about Saudi Arabia's commitment. They criticise a lack of equal and human rights and the treatment of marginalised groups as incompatible with the values of esports.
