Nintendo Increases Net Sales and Sells Another 15.7 Million Switch Consoles

In the last fiscal year, from April 2023 to March 2024, the Nintendo Switch continued to sell well, despite its advanced age for a console. 15.7 million Switch consoles were sold worldwide, with a total of 141.32 million. The company also recorded more than 31 million sellers during this fiscal year.

Nintendo has released its full financial report for the fiscal year from April 2023 to March 2024. Net sales increased by 4.4 per cent to 1.672 trillion yen (10.045 billion euros). Operating profit was 528.941 billion yen (3.178 billion euros), an increase of 4.9 per cent. The Japanese company reports good sales for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and for Pikmin 4. In addition, the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in April 2023 had a positive impact on sales of Mario-related titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which sold 8.18 million units for a cumulative total of 61.97 million units. The total number of million-selling titles for the fiscal year was 31, including games from other software publishers.

From April 2023 to March 2024, 15.7 million Switch consoles were sold worldwide, down 12.6 per cent year on year. The forecast was 15 million. In the current fiscal year (ending March 2025), Nintendo aims to ship another 13.5 million Switch consoles. Since its launch, 141.32 million Switch units have been sold. According to Jim Ryan, Sony's PlayStation 2 is at 160 million (officially around 155 million), Nintendo DS at 154.02 million. Nintendo plans to unveil the successor to the Switch before the end of this fiscal year, i.e. by the end of March 2025.

In terms of software, Nintendo sold nearly 200 million games in the past fiscal year, a decrease of 6,7 per cent year-on-year. The share of digital sales of full versions increased to 50.2 per cent. In total, 1.236 billion software units were sold on Switch. Nintendo will release Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door in May) and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD in June. Another Nintendo Direct featuring new Switch games is planned for June.
