The association Games & XR Mitteldeutschland celebrated its fifth anniversary on 4 July 2024. For the first time, the association received institutional funding from the city of Leipzig in the amount of 40,000 Euros.

On 4 July, the association Games & XR Mitteldeutschland (Games & XR Central Germany) celebrated its fifth anniversary at the Alte Börse in Leipzig. More than 120 members, partners and friends as well as representatives from politics and business attended the festivities. The celebration was opened by words of welcome from Oliver Schenk, Minister of State and Head of the Saxon State Chancellery, Thomas Kralinski, State Secretary and Head of the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport, and Felix Falk, Managing Director of game - the German Games Industry Association.

In a subsequent fishbowl discussion with Thomas Kralinski, André Neumann (Mayor of the City of Altenburg), Felix Falk, Prof. Minh Bin Herbst (A.Muse), Eric Patzschke (Team Leader Digital Economy at the Office for Economic Development of the City of Leipzig) and Nadja Frank (Games & XR Mitteldeutschland) as moderator, the next steps and goals for the regional development of the games and XR industry were discussed.

An important part of the ceremony was the presentation of the funding decision by the Office for Economic Development of the City of Leipzig. Games & XR Mitteldeutschland will receive institutional funding of around 40,000 Euros for 2024. This support underlines the recognition and importance of the association for the regional economy. "The 5th anniversary of Games & XR Mitteldeutschland e.V. is an important milestone for the Leipzig region. In recent years, the association has established itself as an indispensable player and central network for the games and XR industry. The decision to grant institutional funding is an important signal for the future of this innovative industry in our region," said Eric Patzschke from the Office for Economic Development of the City of Leipzig.

Since its inception, Games & XR Mitteldeutschland has launched many projects and supported initiatives to make the regional games and XR industry more visible and stronger. These include joint exhibition booths at caggtus, Mag-C and gamescom, regular industry meetings in Leipzig, Dresden, Jena and other cities in Central Germany, an innovation forum in the field of "Gamification for Medical and Health Technology", a short study for the games and XR industry in Saxony, as well as memberships of association representatives in various advisory boards and committees.

"Over the past five years, we have networked and raised the profile of a very active and ever-growing community of creative minds and innovative companies in Central Germany, but especially in Leipzig. The association continues to plan numerous activities to promote and support the regional games and XR industry. Institutional funding is an important step for us and confirms the commitment and passion that our regional players put into their work every day. Our strength lies in the close cooperation, know-how and passion that each individual brings to the table. I am convinced that this funding will help us to realise more projects and establish the region as a leading location for the games and XR industry," added Friedrich Lüder, Chairman of Games & XR Mitteldeutschland.
