Atari has established a new publishing label under the well-known Infogrames brand. The "new" brand is a legacy brand known for game development and worldwide distribution from the early 1980s to the early 2000s. Infogrames has also announced the acquisition of its first IP, the Totally Reliable Delivery Service from tinyBuild.

Atari revives Infogrames as a publishing label. Infogrames aims to acquire IPs and publish games in various genres that are not part of the core IP portfolio associated with the Atari brand. "For decades, Infogrames built a reputation as a publisher and developer of amazing and eclectic games, and we are excited to bring it back," said Wade Rosen, Chairman and CEO of Atari. Over time, the portfolio may also include some of the legacy titles that were first published by Infogrames. Interested developers and IP owners can contact Infogrames (contact@infogrames.com).

"Infogrames intends to actively manage its catalog of titles by expanding digital and physical distribution, and developing new collections and sequels. Consistent with Atari’s approach, Infogrames sees game preservation as a core component of its mission," the announcement said.

By announcing that Infogrames will return, the first IP acquisition was also confirmed, namely the purchase of the Totally Reliable Delivery Service games, trademarks and underlying assets from tinyBuild. "With Totally Reliable Delivery Service, Infogrames is starting off with a strong IP that has a loyal and enthusiastic player base," commented Geoffroy Châteauvieux, Manager of Infogrames LLC. "The Infogrames team will be able to expand upon the strong work of tinyBuild, and re-energize this high-potential franchise." First released in 2019, the game is set in an open sandbox full of absurd gadgets and unlikely delivery vehicles.

Infogrames is a combination of the French words for computer science and programme. The company was founded in Lyon in 1983 by Bruno Bonnell and Christophe Sapet. The company published games like Alone in the Dark and bought Accolade, GT Interactive and Hasbro Interactive, among others, before being renamed the Atari Group in 2003. The focus on the US market became increasingly important. In May 2009, Infogrames sold its European distribution subsidiary Atari Europe to Namco Bandai and withdrew from the European market. Insolvency followed in 2013. As a result, many brands were sold to Nordic Games, now Embracer Group, including Outcast, Desperados and Alone in the Dark. Since then, unsuccessful forays into the mobile, blockchain, hotel and casino sectors followed, until the retro-gaming shift under Wade Rosen in 2021.

In recent months, Atari has acquired the IP rights to numerous games from the 80s and 90s, as well as the Accolade and GT Interactive brands. At the beginning of February 2024, Atari announced the complete acquisition of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 from Frontier Developments. Atari is now the sole publisher of all major titles within the Rollercoaster Tycoon franchise.
