The gamescom congress closed yesterday, Thursday, with 800 trade visitors and 170,000 livestreams. The keynote speaker Sarah Brin's AI theme, tracks on education, business and society and the political Debatt(l)e Royale dominated the programme.

The conference on the potential of video games at gamescom, the gamescom congress, ended on yesterday's Thursday with a high turnout. Around 800 guests attended the event in Cologne. At the same time, more than 170,000 users watched the live stream. This year's congress was divided into three tracks: Games & Economy, Games & Society and Games & Education, and featured experts from industry, research, education and politics. The relationship between AI and creative potential was the central theme of the keynote speech by Sarah Brin of Kythera AI and several talks in the different tracks.

The political highlight, this time at the end of the day instead of at the beginning, was once again the Debatt(l)e Royale. In this panel discussion, top politicians answered prepared questions and questions from the community chat and took a stand on issues related to games and digital policy. The panel included Franziska Giffey (SPD), Nathanael Liminski (CDU), Emily Büning (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) and Bijan Djir-Sarai (FDP), and was moderated by Kim "Freiraumreh" Adam and Maxim Markow.

Felix Falk, CEO of game - Verband der deutschen Games-Branche: "Games are the great entertainment medium of our time and also do amazing things in many areas of society. Digital games have the power to help us master the challenges of our time. Whether in schools, science and business, environmental protection or social interaction, games are a driver of innovation at all levels. The gamescom congress 2023 has once again impressively demonstrated these diverse possibilities in exciting lectures and debates."

"The gamescom congress inspires dialogue between the games industry and experts from science, education, politics and other sectors and underlines the potential that digital games have for all of us. This makes the congress a marketplace of ideas and thus a fundamental offer within the framework of the entire gamescom," says Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse.
