Aesir Interactive has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori. The Munich-based company is hoping to raise at least €60,000 for the third instalment in the Windstorm series (Ostwind), although development of the title is already funded.

Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori is the third instalment in Aesir's series of games based on Windstorm, known as Ostwind in Germany. It is said to "set a new standard" for open-world, horse-themed action-adventure games. The game is being developed in Unreal 5, will be released for PC and console by publisher Mindscape, and is being funded by FFF Bayern and BMWK (most likely this is the project with the code name Whisper 3, which received funding of €1,471,162). This is Aesir's first Kickstarter project. If all goes according to plan, the game should go into early access in the summer of 2025 and be released in March 2026.

€60,000 is the minimum target, with stretch goals already being considered. Shortly after the launch, the money counter is already at over €24,000. Although the project's funding is already in safe hands, they are relying on the crowdfunding platform to make the game bigger and better. "As outlined, we will still release the game without the additional Kickstarter funds. But with a successful Kickstarter campaign we will be able to dedicate (much) more time and effort towards making the game even better and expanding/adding in much additional content. The additional funding will allow for more time to test, polish and refine the game for a smooth launch."

Aesir Interactive, which employs over 100 people in Munich, continues: "For Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori, we are thrilled to work with Mindscape as passionate publishing partner from the start. While every publisher we’ve worked with in the past has brought their own qualities and strengths to the table, the collaboration with Mindscape allows us to work with more transparency, equality and creative control than ever before, in a way that is beneficial for all involved parties as well as our audience."
