The Deutsche Computerspielpreis (DCP; German Computer Game Award) will be held in Berlin in 2025. For the first time, the venue was put out to tender as part of an EOI process open to all German states, with the capital appearing to have prevailed.

The DCP 2025 will be held in Berlin. At first glance, this comes as no surprise. The DCP has been awarded alternately in Munich and Berlin since its introduction in 2009. In 2024, the DCP was held in Munich, so the choice of Berlin was to be expected. Normally. But for the first time the city to host the DCP has been announced through an process of expression of interest (EOI). According to the organisers, all of Germany's federal states were eligible to bid.

As a result of this process, Berlin was awarded the contract for 2025, the organisers of the DCP announced. These are the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action and game - Verband der deutschen Games-Branche (game - The German Games Industry Association). Berlin impressed with a comprehensive bid concept. This emphasised additional political and financial support from the capital. Among other things, a reception for the nominees with the Governing Mayor of Berlin in the Rotes Rathaus on the eve of the award ceremony is planned. The DCP in Bavaria in 2024 has already been preceded by a programme. There was a warm-up the night before and a reception for the nominees before the actual awards ceremony.

The DCP 2025 will be organised in cooperation with the Berlin Senate Chancellery and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.

"In Berlin, we have found a host for the DCP 2025 that is very committed to games. Berlin supports the games industry on a large scale, among other things through major state funding, a well-positioned industry network, a strong location campaign and numerous high-quality events, making it an excellent partner for the DCP 2025," says Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the BMWK.

"Berlin has been a successful host of the DCP for many years, and once again made a strong case during the selection process as to why it should continue to be so in the future. With their comprehensive concept, our partners in the capital promise to organise an exciting event that will further enhance the appeal of the German Computer Games Award. We are particularly looking forward to the special honouring of the nominees with a reception hosted by the Governing Mayor of Berlin in the Rotes Rathaus," comments Felix Falk, Managing Director of game. .

"Berlin is Germany's No. 1 games location, and our city has been the venue for the German games industry's most important award since its inception. Berlin has the right mix of creativity and politics. The associations and institutions for which games are both a matter of the heart and an important economic factor are present here. I look forward to welcoming the German Computer Game Award and all participants to Berlin in 2025 and to inviting the nominees to a reception in the Rotes Rathaus on the eve of the award ceremony," says Kai Wegner, Governing Mayor of Berlin.

Helge Jürgens, Managing Director of the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, adds: "No other federal state supports games with as much funding as Berlin, and nowhere else is the industry as dynamic: big players, innovative indie studios, diverse teams, national and international awards for games 'Made in Berlin'. Being based in the capital offers the German Computer Game Award the best possible conditions, the greatest possible visibility and plenty of potential for further development. So let's celebrate the industry where it has the best conditions: here in Berlin!"

If those responsible in Berlin have their way, they would prefer to keep the DCP in Berlin permanently.
