There are historical reasons why the accompanying conference to gamescom has its own name: in its early years, devcom was a partner event that was linked to gamescom in terms of time and location, but was organized independently of game and Koelnmesse by Stephan Reichart and his team. This only changed in 2018 (in German) with the acquisition of the rights to the conference and the founding of a separate company headed by Stephan Reichart. Since then, devcom has also moved closer to gamescom in terms of organization.
Nevertheless, it came as a surprise, but was also a logical consequence, when plans for a rebranding to gamescom dev were unveiled in August. Now Game Evens GmbH has announced that the rebranding is complete.
"We’ve been working towards this moment for a long time," says Stephan Reichart, Managing Director of game events GmbH and organizer of gamescom dev. "The rebrand marks the next step in our evolution. Since 2017, we’ve built a home for developers within the gamescom ecosystem – a space for knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration. Now, with gamescom dev, that vision has become a reality."
The first official event under the new name will be the gamescom dev leadership summit Lisbon, taking place February 24 – 26, 2026. "The leadership summit continues our commitment to creating purposeful, private spaces for real conversation," Reichart explains.
But gamescom dev will of course have its big moment in Cologne, where it will attempt to match or even surpass last year's successful figures. In 2025, the conference had 5,400 registered attendees representing over 2,500 companies from 89 countries. On the expo floor, 53 exhibitors showcased their projects and services and 390 speakers featured across 220 sessions on 17 stages.
