nordmedia to fund two games with almost 150,000 euros
Two games in the prototype development stage are being funded by nordmedia. A total of almost 150,000 euros will go to Active Fungus and VR Hero. The games funding accounts for just under five percent of the total funding distributed.
In the second round of funding in 2023, nordmedia's allocation committee awarded a total of up to 2,801,740.35 euros to 59 projects. The majority of the funds will go to film and TV productions, but also to cinemas, projects in the area of qualification and consulting services, mediatalents Niedersachsen and two games.
The first game project, which is at the prototype development stage, is "The Ebbing" by Active Fungus from Munich. The Ebbing" is a third-person detective role-playing game set in 1870 on the North Sea coast of Germany. As Valentin Schmidt, players:inside explore the open world consisting of the village of Havstedt and the surrounding peninsula when a brutal murder shakes the community. To prove their own innocence, they must question the locals, gather information, uncover clues and connect the dots. The boundaries between sailor's yarn, superstition, the supernatural and tangible conflict become increasingly blurred as the murderers are tracked down," reads the description. The prize money is up to 76,752 euros.
"Catocalypse" by VR Hero from Nienburg is funded with up to 70,545.52 Euros. It is also in the prototype development phase. Catocalypse" by VR Hero is the development of a hybrid VR escape room based on artificial intelligence (AI), where the story starts when you enter the VR location and ends when you leave, rather than when you put on or take off your VR glasses. Unique, coordinated analogue puzzles that interact with the digital VR world set this experience apart from other developments".
The states of Lower Saxony and Bremen as well as NDR, ZDF and Radio Bremen are contributing to the funding of nordmedia. The next deadline for submissions is 8 January 2024.
