VR flight simulation by Visualimpression receives almost 620,000 euros in funding
Visualimpression's flight simulation "FlightsimVR", which is based on virtual and mixed reality, will receive €619,915 in funding from the BMWK. The company, based in Magdeburg, Germany, wants to make it possible to learn how to fly an aircraft in a realistic and playful way, including by using hand gestures.
Visualimpression is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection with 619,915 euros. During the project period from 15.09.2023 to 14.09.2026, the virtual reality flight simulation "FlightsimVR" with game-based hand tracking will be developed. The title is about learning to fly an aircraft realistically in VR and/or XR - both in single player and multiplayer mode. Mission objectives and tasks include take-off, landing, troubleshooting and navigation in adverse weather conditions. "The innovation lies in controlling the aircraft in virtual reality using the XR camera image and hand gesture control in a 3D environment using physical lighting methods (Unreal with Lumen) and intelligent data reduction (Unreal with Nanite)," explains Visualimpression.
