The European Championship Finals in "League of Legends" will be held in Munich in 2024. "This is the high score for Bavaria," says Digital Minister Judith Gerlach. The state capital is expecting a positive impact from the major event.

The European League of Legends Championship Finals will be held in Munich in summer 2024. Following negotiations between the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs, the City of Munich, and the organisers at Riot Games, it has been decided that the finals of the professional League of Legends EMEA Championship will take place at the Munich Olympic Hall. Approximately 12,000 fans are expected to attend. More than one million viewers are expected to watch online.

Digital Minister Judith Gerlach said: "This is the high score for Bavaria! With the European Finals of League of Legends, we have brought a great event to the Free State. For years, the e-sports game has captivated a lively and dedicated community of players worldwide. This is a wonderful fit for Bavaria as a cosmopolitan and hospitable high-tech location." The Bavarian Ministry of Digital Affairs is providing financial support for the gaming event.

The finals will take place in rotating European cities, this year in Montpellier, France. Munich expects a positive impact from this event, which attracts a young, international audience. Over 90 percent of spectators are under 30. More than 50 per cent come from abroad and around 75 per cent stay in the city during the event. "They are enthusiastic about technology and science and are very interested in start-ups, especially in the IT sector," writes the State Ministry for Digital Affairs.
