Success for Hesse Crash and Pixels'n'Profit Conference

With over 360 active tournament players, many from abroad, the Hesse Crash fighting game event was a resounding success. The same applies to the Pixels'n'Profit conference, which took place for the first time.
According to the organisers, active tournament participants from Asia took part for the first time. This meant that representatives from every continent except Australia were among the more than 360 participants. The Hessen Crash event has thus evolved from a small regional esports event into one of the most important dates in the fighting game scene in Germany.
A total of 13 disciplines were contested at the event. The winners received the traditional Hessen Crash Bembel – an engraved apple wine jug.
For the first time, the Pixels'n'Profit conference was held alongside the event to promote dialogue between politics, business and the gaming scene. The main focus was on local esports, which, like games in Hesse, receives little support. ‘Hesse lags far behind North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Schleswig-Holstein in terms of infrastructure and funding,’ said Chris Flato, president of the E-Sport-Bund Deutschland (ESBD - German Esports Federation).
Tanja Jost, CDU spokesperson for the creative industries, promised to take concrete steps to ensure that esports clubs are recognised as non-profit organisations. There is also political support for promoting entertainment games, not just serious games. Frank Nagel, CDU city councillor, announced that a games hub will be established in Frankfurt next month, followed shortly afterwards by one in Darmstadt. These are intended to facilitate start-ups, coaching and networking structures for the games industry in Hesse.
