The jury has selected the nominees for this year's Independent Games Festival Awards (IGFA) from 800 submissions. Baby Steps is the favorite, but with Playables, Three More Years, Kevin Du, PlayWithFurcifer, and Stray Fawn, studios GSA also have a chance.
The list of nominations for the IGF Awards is both an honor and a disappointment for GSA studios Poti Poti Games, Lululu Entertainment, and kamibox. The developers of This Seat Taken? (Poti Poti Studio), Henry Halfhead (Lululu Entertainment), and PBJ - The Musical (kamibox) received one or two honorable mentions at the prestigious awards, but were ultimately not nominated.
The situation is different for Playables, Three More Years, Kevin Du, PlayWithFurcifer, and Stray Fawn Studio. Playables is nominated in the Excellence in Design category for Time Flies. Three More Years with Mini Mini Golf Golf and Kevin Du with kevin's PLAYING in berlin are competing against each other in the Nuovo Award category, and PlayWithFurcifer and Stray Fawn Studio are nominated for the Wings Awards with Backpack Battles and The Wandering Village, respectively. All five studios are also eligible for the IGF Audience Award. Voting has begun and will continue until January 25.
There, the five studios will also compete against all other nominees, most notably Baby Steps by Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and Bennett Foddy, which is the favorite with a total of five nominations. Baby Steps is also nominated in the main category, the Seumas McNally Grand Prize, alongside Angeline Era (Analgesic Productions), Blippo+ (Yacht, Telefantasy Studios, Noble Robot, Panic), Horses (Andrea Lucco Borlera, Santa Ragione), Titanium Court (AP Thomson, Fellow Traveller), and Perfect Tides: Station to Station (Three Bees), all of which have also received multiple nominations.
This year's Independent Games Festival Awards ceremony will take place on March 11 as part of GDC and will be broadcast on the GDC Twitch channel.
