Frankfurt and Game Hessen Open Games Hub in Start-up Centre
The financial hub of Frankfurt is getting a central location for game founders. In addition to office space, the young companies will also receive support from experts and networking opportunities at events organised there by the regional division of game.
Financial hub, home to the German branches of Nintendo, Bandai Namco and Sony Interactive Entertainment, as well as studios such as Crytek, Deck13, Keen Games and Gunzilla – the greater Frankfurt area is an economic force, including in the gaming industry. However, Frankfurt is not particularly well known for its gaming start-up scene. Not yet, at least. Because the city has now opened its first game hub.
The Frankfurt Business Games Hub is located in the east of the city in the Frnakfurter Gründerzentrum (Frankfurt Start-up Centre). It supports young entrepreneurs with affordable office space and a shared space. But space is not the only pillar on which the Wirtschaftsförderung Frankfurt (Frankfurt Economic Development Agency), the City of Frankfurt and the industry intend to provide support.
The concept also provides for support from experienced experts, either from the team at the Kompass Centre for Start-ups, a subsidiary of Frankfurt's economic development agency, or from the games industry. Here, those responsible work together with game Hessen, the regional representative of the industry association game. Both partners will also ensure that lectures and networking meetings take place regularly at the Games Hub. These serve as an information and networking platform and are the third pillar of support.
"The Games Hub will provide Frankfurt with a facility for start-ups in the games industry, positioning Frankfurt as an attractive and creative location," said Stephanie Wüst, Head of the Department of Economic Affairs, Law and City Marketing. Bernhard Grieb, Managing Director of Frankfurt Economic Development, also sees the new Games Hub as a great opportunity and an ideal addition to the city's range of support services: "We look forward to working with industry experts and hopefully seeing many more successful start-ups here in the city."’
Jan Klose, regional contact for Hesse at game, the German Games Industry Association, emphasises: "Hesse has long been an important location for games developers and is home to several renowned large studios. However, there has long been a gap in the area of start-ups and start-up support, which can now be closed by the new offering. We are very pleased that Hesse is now seizing this opportunity and look forward to working together."
