SELL (Syndicat des Editeurs de Logiciels de Loisirs) reports a year-on-year increase in turnover of 2.9 per cent. This is significantly below the 4 per cent growth figure recently cited by game for the German games market. In terms of overall figures, too, Germany is well ahead of France as a sales market. Whilst games generated over €9.38 billion in Germany, the figure for France in 2025 was €5.86 billion. As both associations rely, at least in part, on the same partners when collecting data, the figures are likely to be reasonably comparable.

Similar to Germany, the market segments have developed very differently. In France, the growth in the market is primarily driven by developments in hardware sales, but also by revenue from in-game content in mobile games. Revenue from game sales is – as in Germany – declining. It is noteworthy, however, that revenue from game sales in France, at €1.104 billion, remains a billion-euro business. In Germany, this market segment fell below this magic mark as early as 2024.

Hardware revenue in France rose from €1.46 billion to €1.58 billion. Revenue from mobile game content rose from €2.06 billion to €2.26 billion. And the online subscriptions segment, which is also performing well in Germany, saw strong growth in France too, rising from €155 million in 2024 to €343 million in 2025. Unlike the German association, SELL has not published any cross-platform annual charts. Instead, SELL includes revenue and sales figures in its annual top lists

According to these figures, the best-selling console game of 2025 was EA Sports FC 2026, which sold 1.3 million units on consoles and generated revenue of €87.49 million. In terms of units sold, EA Sports FC 25 (542,158) and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 (391,449) follow among console titles. In terms of revenue, however, Battlefield 6 (€27.7 million) leads ahead of COD:BO7 with €27.52 million. If only physical sales were counted, Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Assassin’s Creed Shadows would have ranked second and third in terms of revenue and units sold.

Incidentally, in the PC games category, Battlefield 6 ranks first with 191,737 units sold and €13.99 million in revenue, ahead of EA Sports FC 26 with €5.83 million in revenue and Monster Hunter Wilds with €5.09 million in revenue.

In terms of unit sales, the long-running favourites Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V are in second and third place. Incidentally, Battlefield’s rival Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 sold just 45,455 units on PC, generating revenue of €3.79 million.

The data from the mobile sector is particularly interesting in this context. This is because SELL also provides more detailed revenue figures for this sector. And these show that EA Sports FC 26 was only the second most successful game in terms of revenue in France. In the mobile games sector, Moon Active’s Coin Master leads the way with €119.4 million in revenue. It is followed by Monopoly Go! (€86.67 million), Pokémon TCG Pocket (€62.89 million), Last War: Survival (€55.97 million), Royal Match (€48.72 million), Gossip Harbor: Merge & Story (€41.36 million), Candy Crush Saga (€40.29 million), Brawl Stars (€34.11 million), Whiteout Survival (€28.78 million) and Clash Royale (€27.29 million).
