Stefan Kelnberger and astragon to Release Railroads Online in Fall 2024
After almost three years in Early Access, Railroad Online will be released on PC this fall. At the same time, publisher astragon Entertainment and developer Stefan Kelnberger will also launch console versions of the sandbox railway simulation.
astragon Entertainment and developer Stefan Kelnberger have announced that Railroads Online will leave Steam Early Access later this year for 34.99 Euros. Simultaneously, the sandbox railway simulation will be released digitally for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for 39.99 Euros. A retail version for the PS5 will be available at a later date.
In Railroads Online, players build a railway network alone or in multiplayer with up to 16 players. In a large open game world, rails, switches and stations must be built to transport various goods in authentic locomotives. "The game uses the advanced physics systems of the Unreal Engine to create the most authentic railroad simulation possible, rendering collisions and forces dynamically in real time for maximum Immersion," the publisher writes. Based on feedback from the community, many technical improvements (physics, performance etc.) have been made over the last three years. Last year, the game moved to Unreal Engine 5, with dynamic weather and a day-night cycle. The game will continue to receive updates before it leaves Early Access, including a completely redesigned UI. As a thank you for support during Early Access, all Early Access purchasers on Steam will receive the Pioneer Pack for free with the full release.
In October 2021, Stefan Kelnberger released the game in Early Access on Steam. A year later, astragon Entertainment joined the project as publisher. Since its launch, the game has been regularly updated with new features and content. These include new locomotives and wagons, buildings, production chains and goods, fuels, and two additional maps where players can build their own railway networks.
Since 2018, Stefan Kelnberger has been developing American Railroads as a hobby project and later Railroads Online. In 2021, he founded the Stefan Kelnberger GmbH and has been working full-time on Railroads Online ever since, developing the game with an international team of freelancers.
