FFF Bayern has released its 2024 funding balance, confirming a total of €3.6 million in games funding—an amount that Bavaria’s Minister for Digital Affairs, Fabian Mehring, had already announced in December. However, it appears there was additional funding allocated to the XR sector.

Traditionally, FFF Bayern presents its funding balance at a press lunch, attended by numerous funding recipients. The primary focus remains on film funding, which still accounts for the majority of the total €42.98 million approved by FFF Bayern in 2024.

According to FFF Bayern, €3.6 million was allocated to the games sector, supporting the development of 34 new games. This figure aligns with Bavarian digital miister Fabian Mehring’s December announcement, who provides the budget for games funding to FFF Bayern. However, a discrepancy has emerged: the FFF funding statement mentions an additional €700,000 for XR funding, despite XR projects already being included in the December calculations. The reason for this is that not every XR project qualifies as a game.

In any case, funding allocations cannot always be strictly divided between games and film. In 2024, FFF Bayern also spent €700,000 on location promotion initiatives, including events such as the HFF Screenings and the Gameswanderung (a hiking event).
