The Bavarian Digital Ministry funded games and XR with a total of 5.6 million euros in 2022. The ministry speaks of "record funding for games". 3.9 million euros went to games projects and 1.7 million euros to the XR sector. These include, for example, a virtual reality game about the Munich Oktoberfest and an economic simulation in which the players create a virtual network of cities and trade routes. In the XR sector, most of the money went to the XR Hubs in Munich, Nuremberg and Würzburg, for example for a virtual deployment training for firefighters that is made available to the Bavarian fire brigades.
Bavaria's Digital Minister Judith Gerlach draws a positive balance: "The games and XR industry in Bavaria has developed into a strong, highly innovative sector. Numerous ideas are being developed here that also provide impulses in other sectors of the economy, from medicine to education. I am proud that we were able to support these future industries in 2022 with the record sum of 5.6 million euros in total. This is cutting-edge funding for cutting-edge technology."
According to Gerlach, the film industry has also recovered somewhat after the difficult Corona years. The Digital Ministry was able to support the industry through the FFF Bayern with around 29.2 million euros (preliminary figures). Gerlach: "From the Saga of the Nibelungs to the new tragicomedy 'Cooking School Black' by successful director Dani Levy to the gripping drama 'September 5' about the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich - it is these strong stories that cinema needs, especially after this difficult phase. I am therefore very pleased that we were able to support such great projects again this year through the FFF Bayern."
