Game developers from Germany can now apply for a grant from the "Press Start: Games Foundation Grant" aka "Press Start: Gründungsstipendium Games" until 17 November 2024. Individual applications and team applications of up to three people are possible.

Game developers from Germany can now apply for a place in the "Press Start: Games Foundation Grant" (website). As well as individuals, teams of up to three people can apply together. In this case, each team member will be assessed individually for eligibility. Key elements are a letter of motivation, CVs and a pitch deck. The deadline for applications is 23:59 on 17 November 2024.

After a formal review of all applications by the staff of the Stiftung Digitale Spielekultur, the valid submissions will be presented to an independent jury of 20 experts, who will evaluate the applications in a two-stage process. The submitted game projects must at least be available as a concept. Games already in development can also be considered. However, they must not have been published yet. Modifications of already developed games without significant changes or a unique position are not sufficient. Scholarships will be awarded and contracts signed later this year. The workshop and coaching programme will start in 2025.

The programme is open to game developers based in Germany who have either founded a company in Germany in the last 18 months or plan to do so within the next twelve months. Applicants who are still studying will also be considered. All projects using game mechanics and technologies in the broadest sense, such as gamification, serious games, VR/AR/MR, etc. are also eligible. Analogue game concepts will not be considered.

Claudia Roth, the State Minister for Culture and the Media, is supporting the establishment of new game studios in Germany with this new funding programme. Over a period of 18 months, founders will receive a grant of €2,750 per month to help them focus on the start-up phase. Grant recipients will also receive a training and networking programme, as well as coaching to help them get started in the industry. The expert jury will select up to 130 founders.

Those interested in applying can also find out more about the application process in webinars on 30 October and 5 November 2024. There will be no other opportunities for individual advice on applications. Registration for the webinars, the application form and the latest information can be found at: https://games-stipendium.de/.
