MDM Funds Kicking Brass With €100,000
In its fourth and final meeting of the year, the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM, Central German Media Funding) awarded a total of €3,953,000.00 to 34 projects on 4 December. Among them is a game project.
Kicking Brass from Stepheight Studio (Sam Flentje, Peter Dunn, Oskar Kraska McKone) is benefiting from project development funding in the new media sector. This project has been awarded 100,000 Euros. It is an action roguelike with different music instruments: "Based on the Tuba Knight memes, Kicking Brass is set in the Symphonic Continent, where musicians can receive supernatural abilities via their performances. Every aspect of daily life is shaped by music: tools, clothing and weapons are replaced by instruments and those who can wield them are greatly admired."
The majority of funded projects are in the film sector, although there is also a game-related project, the documentary "The Sound of Video Game Music" by Günter Atteln (accentus music, 25,000 Euros).
At the end of November, the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM, Central German Media Funding) has launched its first dedicated funding guideline for games, which has been approved by the European Commission and will take effect at the start of the new year. This marks a significant boost for studios based in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia (GamesMarkt reported). "Games are one of the most important growth markets in the entertainment industry. Business, culture, and science can all benefit equally from their innovative strength. In Central Germany, too, there are many exciting companies active in the games sector that we can now support even better with our guidelines. This will enable us to facilitate the development of games and sustainably strengthen regional studios and young creatives," emphasized MDM Managing Director André Naumann.
