Gamecity Hamburg is offering €400,000 in Prototype Funding for game development. The deadline for applications is 7 April 2025.
Gamecity Hamburg's Prototype Funding is open to founders, start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from 3 March to 7 April 2025. Applicants can receive up to €80,000 for the development of their digital games. On behalf of the City of Hamburg, Gamecity Hamburg, as part of the Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, will support game developers with a total of €400,000 in 2025 for Prototype Funding. Consultation with Gamecity Hamburg is mandatory and recommended at least two weeks before the submission deadline (FAQ and required templates).
"With our Prototype Funding, now in its seventh funding round since 2020, we offer reliable start-up funding for the development of computer and video games. We know of the great potential of game developers in Hamburg and will continue to encourage the diversity of games and teams alike," comments Dennis Schoubye, Head of Gamecity Hamburg.
Funding is available for up to 80% of the eligible costs for the creation of digital game prototypes. A maximum of €80,000 can be requested per project. The funding is non-repayable. Since 2024, a 'Diversity Checklist' has been part of the application process to help increase the diversity of teams and content in prototypes.
The selection committee consists of Valentina Birke (Director Indie Arena Booth), Jonas Hüsges (COO, Daedalic Entertainment), Nina Müller (VP Publishing & Development Services, Goodgame Studios), Michael Schade (CEO & Co-Founder Rockfish Games) and Dennis Schoubye (Head of Gamecity Hamburg). Following the application phase, the committee will meet on 28 April 2025 and decide on the allocation of funding on the basis of the applications and a subsequent pitch by the applicants on 5 May 2025.
