Usual Suspects, Successful Exclusives, and the Missing Surprise Hit
The game association has released the annual charts for the best-selling console and PC games of 2024. While the top positions are similar to previous years, there are notable differences in the details.
The elephant in the room, however, is the absence of Black Myth: Wukong. As was the case during its release in the fall, the Chinese publisher has not reported the title to the pan-European GSD (Game Sales Data) system. This omission means the sales figures for the game are not collected and, as a result, it cannot be included in the annual charts. Therefore, it is impossible to determine exactly where this surprise hit would have ranked.
That said, it is unlikely that Black Myth: Wukong would have claimed the top spot. As in previous years, the chart is dominated by two heavyweights: EA Sports FC and Call of Duty. Farming Simulator remains a perennial favourite, once again securing a place in the top five. Completing the top positions are two console exclusives: Super Mario Party Jamboree and Helldivers 2, the latter achieving a respectable third place.
Sony Interactive’s PS5 exclusives are also well-represented. Both The Last of Us Part II Remastered and Astro Bot made it into the top 20.
However, the list needs some context. Only titles released in 2024 are included. This means that some long-selling favourites—such as Nintendo’s classics or GTA V from Rockstar Games—may have been excluded.
Nevertheless, the top 20 still offers surprises. For instance, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero edged out Tekken 8 in Bandai Namco Entertainment’s internal duel. Ubisoft’s highest-ranking title is Star Wars Outlaws, while Dragon Age: The Veilguard failed to compete with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
