GOG Dreamlist Started to Bring Back Games With Greater Vigour
Online distribution platform GOG has launched the Dreamlist, a public tool to persuade publishers to re-release games that are no longer accessible. Also: Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 have been re-released.
CD Projekt's GOG.com has launched Dreamlist, a community-based tool that allows people to vote for games they would like to see revived and re-released on GOG. These votes will carry weight in discussions with IP owners to bring these games back to life. "It wasn't just a list - more often than not, it was the fuel for our actions. When talks with IP owners hit a wall, the Wishlist kept the conversation going. (...) Each vote is a spark that inspires publishers to act," they said. The most requested game not yet available on GOG is Black & White with almost 54,000 votes, followed by Black & White 2, Command & Conquer: The Ultimate Collection, Freelancer, No One Lives Forever and Diablo II. Note: Command & Conquer: The Ultimate Collection is available in retail stores and on Steam, but not on GOG.com. Diablo II is available on Battle.net.
"Games are disappearing – that's a fact. According to the Video Game History Foundation, 87% of all games made before 2010 are now inaccessible. Just a few months ago, we launched the GOG Preservation Program to protect the games we can – and today, we’re taking further steps to ensure they live forever," GOG.com writes.
To coincide with the announcement, Capcom's Dino Crisis (2000) and Dino Crisis 2 (2002) have been released on GOG.com. "These classic titles are ready to play on modern PCs right now, and like all the classic gems on GOG, they come DRM-free with their original content fully intact. Both games launch within our GOG Preservation Program, too – this means we armed them with various quality-of-life upgrades and fine-tuned compatibility so they can run smoothly on today's and future systems." They now support Windows 10/11 and include Original, Arrange and PC exclusive Operation Wipe Out modes. Updates include improved DirectX rendering, ~4K resolution, modern controllers, and fixes for stability, transparency, and save issues. New options include V-Sync, gamma correction and antialiasing.
