The next Young Academics Workshop (YAW) and Game Jam hosted by the Cologne Game Lab will take place on March 18 and 19. This time, the focus will be on Games, Politics & Psychology: Community Building in Games & Virtual Worlds.

The Young Academics Workshop (YAW) was first organised in 2017 as part of the Clash of Realities conference, which sees itself as a conference for art, technology and theory of digital games. With no continuation of Clash of Realities currently in sight, the Cologne Game Lab has announced that the YAW and Game Jam will take place in mid-March. The event consists of a conference part on 18 March and the Game Jam part on 19 March. Both deal with the topic ‘Games, Politics & Psychology: Community Building in Games & Virtual Worlds’.

Admission to the conference is free of charge, but due to limited capacity, prior registration is required. Speakers will include representatives from the Cologne Game Lab, as well as:

  • Matthias Heider (Institute for Democracy and Civil Society – IDZ)
  • Alexandra Petrus (University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts)
  • Rüdiger Brandis (Playing History GmbH; University of Göttingen)
  • Finja Walsdorff (University of Siegen; Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf)
  • Benjamin Strobel (Behind the Screens)
  • Diego A. Mejía-Alandia (Universidad de Sevilla)
