GamesMarket Daily – 02 Oct 26: Otto, HNU Game Institute, EU Funding, Nerdic, QSSR, Galaxies, Rudolf Inderst
A new games institute, digital games as a new product category for a retailer, or a new and bigger round of EU funding – at the start of the month, the focus is very much on what’s new in the games industry.
retailers simply have to sell digitally. Otto, one of Germany’s largest e-commerce retailers, seems to have come to the same conclusion and is now launching digital sales of games. This is not the first initiative of its kind in the GSA region. Galaxus is also trialling the digital distribution of entertainment products in Switzerland. Naturally, the question arises as to how sensible it is to compete with the platform providers; on the other hand, existing digital stores demonstrate just how crucial visibility is in digital distribution. So why shouldn’t retailers monetise their access to their own customer base through digital products such as games?
