Students, faculty, and researchers at Offenburg University of Applied Sciences now have access to all paid content, including the digital journal archive of the long-established Munich-based gaming industry magazine GamesMarket. This access is made possible by the new IP Access program, which GamesMarket has established for institutional partners and is now rolling out publicly.

The IP Access program is launched by GamesMarket to specifically support universities in training professionals for the games industry. Its goal is to strengthen the transfer of knowledge between industry and academia and to provide students with practical insight into current market developments at an early stage. This gives them easy, anonymous, and comprehensive access to all of GamesMarket’s paid and exclusive content, starting with the recent Working in Games e-paper special focussing on entry into the games industry.

“We are very pleased to have secured Offenburg University of Applied Sciences as the first partner for our IP Access Program,” explains Pascal Wagner, Chief Relationship Officer at GamesMarket. “This collaboration allows us to provide young talent with relevant industry information from the very start of their studies and to optimally prepare them for their professional future. As a native of Offenburg, I am personally delighted that we have found the perfect partner in Offenburg University of Applied Sciences and its Virtual Worlds & Game Technologies program to launch our IP Access Program.”

Offenburg University of Applied Sciences also views the partnership as an important step: “Many students aspire to start their own game studio after graduation, which means they will then have to hold their own in the market and in the games industry,” explains Prof. Dr. Daniel Görlich, head of the Virtual Worlds & Game Technologies program. Having access to market data and receiving regular updates on important events even during the three-and-a-half-year program can be crucial to the success of their own studio. “The IP Access Program now enables our students to gain an economic perspective on the gaming industry.” Petra Möhringer, library director and expert on licensing online resources at Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, adds: “Access via IP address is one of the most common methods for making electronic resources available university-wide.”

As part of the program, students and staff at Offenburg University of Applied Sciences benefit from, among other things, direct access to up-to-the-minute news, services such as special e-paper editions and industry calendars, as well as all exclusive Plus content – including features, interviews, charts, and market figures – without the need for additional registration.

Interested institutions can get an individual offer for IP Access by contacting [email protected]. More info can be found on our IP Access landing page.

With this partnership, GamesMarket is sending a clear signal in support of the next generation of academics and game developers and plans to expand the IP Access Program to universities across Germany and Europe in the future.
