Chief Software Architect Bill Gates hat auf der Tokyo Game Show 2001 Autumn erneut Microsofts Xbox-Engagement auf dem japanischen Markt bekräftigt. Damit hat der Neueinsteiger im Konsolenmarkt die diesjährige Herbstausgabe der TGS als Präsentations- und Promotionsplattform sowohl für den japanischen Handel als auch für den japanischen Konsumten vorteilhaft für sich nutzen können. Nach Absage der Tokyo Game Show 2002 Spring, die für Microsoft kurz vor dem Japan-Release der Konsole als Katalysator hätte dienen sollen, unterstrich das konzertierte Auftreten auf der diesjährigen Herbstausgabe, welche Bedeutung der Redmonder Konzern dem japanischen Markt beimisst: "Wir sehen das Geschäft für Videospiele als einen globalen Markt, mit Japan als dessen Zentrum", so Gates. In der gut einstündigen Xbox-Conference wurden zudem die japanische Version des Xbox-Controllers sowie auf einer Videoleinwand zahlreiche Xbox-Games vorgestellt, unter anderem Konamis "Silent Hill 2" sowie "Pro Evolution Soccer".
