ARD Launched ARD Games Network at Gamescom
The ARD booth at gamescom was the first cross-broadcaster project from the new ARD Games Network to be presented at gamescom. In four clusters, it aims to support upcoming projects, facilitate exchange, and thus strengthen the impact of the gaming initiatives of the ARD broadcasters.
Many of the various ARD stations from the federal states and regions have already implemented a wide range of projects in the gaming context in recent years. Now, the public broadcasting group wants to consolidate this commitment and provide better support. To this end, ARD presented the ARD Games Network at the ongoing gamescom. The first station-wide project was the ARD gamescom booth, which can be found in the entertainment area.
The network aims to strengthen cooperation and provide clarity on the question: Which games should ARD really be making—and how? "With projects such as the Tatort Game, the educational game Nachrichtenmacher, and the recently released Roblox game based on the format 'Bau die Burg,' SWR has been demonstrating for years how gaming and public service broadcasting go hand in hand: through innovative digital games that combine information, education, entertainment, and fun. Now, together with all ARD broadcasters and under the leadership of SWR, we have founded the ARD Games Network – a milestone for the strategic development of gaming as a field of innovation," says Thomas Dauser, Director of Innovation Management and Digital Transformation (SWR).
The network operates in strategy, community, culture, and growth with participation within ARD is voluntary. Decisions on specific game developments remain with the individual broadcasters. The network supports upcoming projects, facilitates cross-broadcaster exchange, and amplifies the impact of ARD gaming initiatives.
