A second part for Kingdom Come: Deliverance was almost a given. The Middleage RPG by Warhorse is one of Plaions most successful titles. This time, the full current-gen title can trump with improved aesthetics.

Heinrich is back — and while the Kingdom of Bohemia was part of the Holy Roman Empire at the time Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 takes place, we are not talking about any of the kings or emperors with that name. Playing as Heinrich von Skalitz was the big deal of the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance in 2018, because players took the role of an ordinary nobody in medieval Central Europe instead of an established knight, prince or destined saviour of the world. The hook had been successful: Over six million units have been sold of the game to date. A big number for the game that started out as a Kickstarter project before Plaion picked it up as a publisher.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 takes off just where the first one and its add-ons ended up, again in Heinrich‘s shoes. The learned blacksmith fights, intrigues, smoothtalks and even leads his own army in this story sequel that takes all the qualities of the first game further: The big open world will again be filled with various settlements to freely explore. The game is unsurprisingly much bigger than before, being about twice the size of the predecessor on two new maps in different parts of Bohemia. Real-world locations are supposed to be recognisable, most important among them Kuttenberg, a real Unesco World Heritage Site. Over five hours of cutscenes will see the story of Heinrich‘s revenge quest through. The stakes are higher this time, with the ultimate goal of defending Heinrich‘s motherland against the army of the Hungarian king Sigismund — who ultimately became king of Bohemia in real history, but who is to say how the game‘s story turns out.

Warhorse Studios is developing the game. The company was founded in 2011 by industry veterans Dan Vávra (Creator of Mafia and Mafia 2) and Martin Klíma (formerly of Altar Interactive) in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. Currently, over 250 people work at Warhorse. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be a pure current gen title with no versions for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. That means in contrast to the prequel, it can feature vastly improved graphics and technical finesse, while still utilising Cryteks CryEngine like the first game. The combat system especially has been reworked to be accessible and easier to understand.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 releases on 11 February 2025.

Conclusion

Audentes Fortuna Iuvat – a sequel might not be bold, but the big and shiny game will most certainly be lucky.
