Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, released last week, was the biggest Call of Duty release ever, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has confirmed. Sales on PlayStation and Steam were also up sharply compared to last year. The impact on Game Pass subscribers is equally clear.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has achieved the best launch of any game in the franchise to date. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella did not give exact figures at the investor conference, but the shooter has set a new record for day-one players. The game was also included in certain Game Pass tiers for the first time at launch, which also led to record subscriber growth.

Satya Nadella: "Last week's launch of Black Ops 6 was the biggest Call of Duty release ever, setting a record for day one players, as well as Game Pass subscriber adds on launch day. And unit sales on PlayStation and Steam were also up over 60% year-over-year. This speaks to our strategy of meeting gamers where they are by enabling them to play more games across the screens they spend their time on."

Last year's game in the series was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Since Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the production structure of the Call of Duty series has not changed, as Matt Cox, senior vice president and general manager of Call of Duty at Activision, told the Washington Post. In total, 15 Activision studios are working to ensure that a new game in the series can be released every year. The long-running franchise has now sold over 500 million units.
