He is quite literally the ideal man for the job, because he has headed the games funding department at DLR Projektträger for the last five years and through now three Federal government periods: Dr Matteo Riatti will become the new head of the reinstated Games Division at the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt; BMFTR), starting from 1 March 2026. The ministry under Dorothee Bär (CSU) has confirmed this to GamesMarkt today.

The position had been advertised since October 2025.

Who will take Riatti's position at the DLR Projektträger? That is as of yet unknown. Since it's a public position, it will likely have to be filled through the usual lengthy advertisement process, just like Riatti's ministry job.
