Microsoft is bringing another Xbox franchise to PlayStation 5: Gears of War. Right after gamescom, Gears of War: Reloaded will be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

On 26 August 2025, Microsoft will release Gears of War: Reloaded for Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam, Xbox App), Xbox Cloud Gaming and PlayStation 5 at a price of $39.99 (no price has been announced for the Eurozone). The game will be available via Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass from day one. It is a remaster developed by The Coalition in partnership with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief, that supports cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms.

Mike Crump, Studio Head, The Coalition: "As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we're reflecting on what this franchise means. It's about the stories we've told, the friendships we've built, and the unforgettable moments we've shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we're opening that door to more players than ever."

Gears of War: Reloaded features the content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition with all post-launch downloadable content, including the bonus campaign, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full roster of classic characters and cosmetics unlockable through progression. The campaign supports two-player co-op and Versus multiplayer supports up to 8 players. No Microsoft account required, but logging in with a Microsoft account unlocks full cross-platform functionality and cross-progression.  Promised features include 4K resolution (HDR), 60fps in campaign, 120fps in multiplayer, 4K assets and remastered textures, enhanced post-processing visual effects, improved shadows and reflections, super resolution with improved anti-aliasing and zero loading screens during campaign.

Gears of War: Reloaded will be a free upgrade for players who purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before 5 May 2025 (16:00 UTC).
