It's the first one in the German-speaking area, and it also accepts English submissions: Four renowned games researchers have opened up a call for submissions on the The Legend of Zelda game series by Nintendo. Mythos Hyrule has its own landing page, and is looking for abstracts until 10 May 2026.

"The aim is to reconstruct The Legend of Zelda as a complex interweaving of game systems, aesthetic forms, narrative strategies, fan cultures, and economic and cultural-political contexts. This volume is explicitly conceived as an interdisciplinary project that invites contributions from game studies, media and cultural studies, design research, computer science, education, musicology, gender/queer studies, postcolonial studies, communication studies, and related disciplines", the editors Jörg Burbach, Rudolf Thomas Inderst, Stefan Heinrich Simond and Nadine Trautzsch explain in the call.

The current schedule for the call looks as follows:

  • Abstract submission: May 10, 2026
  • Notification of acceptance/revision: May 30, 2026
  • Submission of full papers: October 7, 2026
  • Peer review phase and feedback: November through December 2026
  • Submission of revised final versions: February 15, 2027
  • Planned publication of the anthology: Q2 2027
